Hydrofiltrat Statice G: Powerful antioxidant that extends the
sunlight tolerance of skin
 
Introduction:
Codif developed Hydrofiltrat Statice G, which is an aqueous extract of the seaside plant Immortelle Bleue. Its powerful antioxidant properties trap free radicals and protect the biological structures of the skin. Hydrofiltrat Statice G preserves and prolongs the sunlight tolerance of skin.

Market status:
Protection of the skin against UV-induced free radical damaged is of course vital to developing successful anti-ageing skincare. Consumers understand the damage caused by UV, but it is also recognised that a degree of sun exposure offers many benefits (inc. synthesis of Vitamin D, general health and the all important 'feel good factor'). The proven protection offered by Hydrofiltrat Statice G extends the amount of time that skin can safely tolerate UV exposure.

Attributes of the plant Immortelle Bleue
Immortelle Bleue (also known as Statice or Limonium Narbonense) is a perennial seaside plant found on the seaside sands of the Carnargue region of Southern France. Exposed every day to the Provence sun, Immortelle Bleue has developed remarkable protection systems, particularly for combating the phenomena of oxidation and generation of free radicals, caused by UV rays.

Codif's extensive efficacy testing
As expected from Codif, extensive efficacy testing has been conducted to fully evaluate and prove the attributes of Hydrofiltrat Statice G:

Study Topic 1: Antioxidant properties
Codif used the ORAC test, DPPH test and Hypoxanthin/Xanthin oxydase methods to evaluate antioxidant efficacy. The three chosen tests are industry standards, and in combination offer a comprehensive screening process.

- Proven to have significantly greater antioxidant effects than Quercetin and cranberry
- Both of the above are considered to be highly effective antioxidants
- Hydrofiltrat Statice G was shown to be a very powerful antioxidant

Study Topic 2: UVA & UVB protective and restorative effect
Codif used a fibroblast culture and measured the cell viability during exposure to UVA or UVB over a 24 hour period.

- Proven to protect the cells of the dermis against harmful effects of UVA & UVB rays
- In addition, also proven to have a restorative effect of cells that have been damaged by UV exposure
- Skin cells can tolerate exposure to the sun much better, for much longer, without any risk

Study Topic 3: Protective effect (at 2%)
Codif used the well-known Lipid Peroxidation study. This test evaluates the level of oxidised lipids (known as the peroxidation level) after UV exposure, with or without the application of Hydrofiltrat Statice G. A low peroxidation level shows a protective action against UV-induced free radical generation.

- 2% Hydrofiltrat Statice G showed a peroxidation level that was less than that of non-UV exposed skin
- It provides 100% protection to the skin during exposure to the sun
