 Introduction:
Orgasol®
is one of the most famous and trusted brand names found
in the Cosmetics & Toiletries industry. With such a wide range of
application possibilities, the attributes of the Orgasol® grades add value across many different
formulation areas. Arkema recently announced a 40% capacity increase at
its Orgasol® production facility in Mont, France.
Market status:
It is no secret that formulators are putting more emphasis than
ever on the physical attributes of cosmetic formulations. Consumers
expect cosmetics to be very efficient and deliver not only activity but
to also feel fantastic and offer instant, masking or coating effects.
The use of texturing and soft focus powders in make-up, facial skincare
and bodycare continues to be a key technical trend.

Orgasol® as a brand has existed for
many years but continues to see major steps forward and innovations
through the introduction of new grades and generation of new technical
data. Orgasol® is most famous for its applications in make-up products
as texturing agents, but there is far more to the range!
Last year we introduced Orgasol® Caresse, a grade designed specifically
for skincare. Arkema has invested a great deal of time investigating the
attributes and opportunities of this grade:
Orgasol® Caresse -
the skincare grade
This grade was developed for skincare,
and more specifically, for inclusion in aqueous, continuous phases.
INCI: Polyamide-5
The hydrophillic and hydrophobic characteristics have been manipulated
to allow easy dispersion in aqueous formulae, but the fantastic and
renowned sensorial benefits of Orgasol®
are retained.
Dramatic sensorial effects for aqueous formulae
Even at <5% inclusion rate, Orgasol®
Caresse imparts highly perceivable, dramatic sensorial improvements to
aqueous formulae. It adds a rich, creamy, soft feel that is a perfect
addition to light formulae. It reduces stickiness from heavy oils and
waxes, and also offers greater absorptive capacity than the other
Orgasol®
grades.
Orgasol® Caresse in action
Arkema developed a
number of skincare formulae and tested them on a panel of volunteers to
understand and measure the perceivable benefits of Orgasol®
Caresse. Full details are available, but here is a snapshot of what they
found:
Anti-wrinkle foam
* The feel is mild and soft, despite a complex
stearic acid-based formula
* Foam creaminess and richness were increased
* Provided a soft focus effect on the skin (light diffusion / masking)
* Subjects reported a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and fine
lines
* Fringe project revealed a 5% wrinkle reduction following use
SPF 30 Sun Protection Fluid
* Silky and soft
* No white residue
* No sticky or oily feel reported
* Enhanced application and spread
* SPF enhancement was observed (not quantified at this stage)
